Hugging the Ligurian coastline, Genoa boasts Europe’s largest old town and Italy’s largest seaport. As birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico) are several bars and restaurants serving the local speciality – pesto. Other Genoese favourites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade – Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighbourhood, where colourful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the old town with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the ‘Superb City’. Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodation, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.
Friendly and not expensive (like Rome). People don't try and con you as a tourist. Only issue is that alomost no one speaks English outside of a few folks, but Google translate can help with that :) Defo take the ferry to Porto Fino and stop at the 2 places on the way.

Genova was a beautiful place to visit with heaps of things to do and visit. We ate at local restaurants within walking distance with everything quite accessible. Only problem was that we were unfortunate with the weather and it was quite cold.

Genoa is beautiful city but this hotel is terribly horribly run down. From the entrance, the lobby, the elevators, the corridors and the rooms it is a total disaster. You should stay there or send someone to spend just one night. It should be off your list of hotels. They have not spent one cent on maintenance in many many years.

We love visiting Genova and return for 1-2 night breaks frequently as there is such a range of activities: museums, historic buildings, beaches, port, food, food, food!
We like how the buses, metro and trains match the timings listed on Google Maps, and how easy it is to purchase tickets by card via the ATM Genova app.
The aquarium and the area around the Porto Antico is a must as there is always something going on, like street performers.

Genoa was a nice looking city.
Genoa was a nice looking city. Unfortunately the two+ hours we wasted trying the find the property greatly reduced the amount if time we had to see some sights we wanted to see. We also tried to go to the aquarium but by the time we got there they were sold out for the day. Having only a half day greatly limited the sights we could see. We did go to Laterna and enjoyed the tour and the history of the lighthouse, the second oldest operating lighthouse in the world.

Genova is a beautiful old city with many gorgeous palazzos, churches and interesting streets. The harbour has many ships, historical landmarks and an aquarium. There are restaurants to suit every diner and pocket, from endless street cafes selling pizza and pastries to superb fine dining restaurants offering wonderful seasonal specialties. Great shopping too.

My stay at the Olympia was perfect for my visit to Genova. The friendly hosts, Agostino and Angelo were helpful and enthusiastic with suggestions and recommendations for dining and sights. The location is ideal for exploring the city (old and new areas easily accessible). My room, on the smaller side, fit my budget and had all the amenities needed. A great value for the area, and for Italy in general. I recommend Hotel Olympia - my home in Genova. 🇮🇹
The hotel is very well positioned right next to the main train station which makes it a very good base to start exploring the zone. And here I mean Cinque Terre as well as Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli. It is also within walking range to the Acquarium and touristic port. The breakfast has multiple choices and the best caffee I ever had in a hotel in Italy at breakfast. The air conditioning worked like a charm and it was very efficient.
Beautiful, modern, extra clean, confortable room!
Great breakfast!
Parking space in hotel's yard!
Kind and heplfull staff!
Great lokation- in the center of the beautiful Genoa, walking distance to all important and historic places to see ( The Garibaldi street with Palaces Roso and Bianco, churches, Colombo house, Oriental garden and museum, harbour).
The best hotel with very good price in the hart of Genoa!
All the recomendation!
Hotel was beautiful and felt high end the second you walk in. We stayed 4 nights and it was easy to get around the city from the hotel. We walked most places but took buses and metro when tired. Room was large with comfy beds. Breakfast was wonderful every morning… so many choices. The lobby bar was also great— they can make a great cocktail. Hotel was very accommodating to our two young children.
I enjoyed getting a taste of living in Italy and having a host who was very kind and gracious. I loved the morning breakfast as it felt as though I was visiting family who made a wonderful breakfast for us to get our day started. I share with Francesca that I found myself daydreaming looking out the window and relaxing before we started our day.
The apartment is spacious and comfortable. It has 1 bathroom with a great shower :-)
It is located in what seems to be the business district of Genova, very close to the old town.
The beds were the most comfortable we had during our stay in Italy (6 hotels).
The staff was very nice and even made an effort to let us check in earlier than usual.
I loved that the hotel is on the beach, literally, there is about a 20m distance from the wall to the water, absolutely smashing, I snorkeled for hours, the rocks behind the hotel are full of fish and there are quite a few species.
I liked the feel of the hotel, it looks great inside, the staff were great and happy to help.
Thank you !
Have no complaints. Location was perfect in the city center. There are a lot of restaurants around. All the sightseeing places are in the walking distance. Room was clean and comfortable.
I made a video of this place which is stored on youtube channel "MBVD Channel". Video name "Room at Hotel Fiume, Genoa, Italy"
I asked a woman in the reception for a toothbrush and she didn’t have one by the counter so she literally ran up the stairs to their cleaning tools cabinet and got me one and brought it to my room. That is what i call service. Not so common during my earlier stay in other hotels in Italy, so big shoutout to you
As a solo traveller backpacking through Italy this Hotel was just perfect. Clean and with all you need for a good night of rest. Walking distance from the city center. Friendly staff. Will definitely come back if I am in Genova
Friendly host, a bottle of sparkling vine in the fridge by arrival. Location near beach, (Spiaggia Sturla), walking distance to Vernazzola Beach and restaurants and the local Coop food store. Two separate bathrooms
The staff were exceptionally helpful when we parked in the wrong place and then got lost walking to the hotel. They came and found us, and the next day arranged transport to where we did park.
The cleanliness which i think is better than most hotels in Italy, location of course and the care they take on the property, it’s really well maintained.
