We were disappointed with the food . Felt like the kitchen was trying too hard and combination of flavours did not always work. Very expensive meal which did not meet up to our expectations. Room very comfortable

It needed a lo of maintenance and there was old wooden stairs to a room that was ok but the bathroom was tired and needed a major overall

the staff was very friendly, indeed. The room was quiet and comfortable, the breakfast was excellent. We also enjoyed the cheese platter as well as their hot appetisers (especially when you had a sumptuous luncheon, elsewhere and really only want to have something to nibble).
This hotel is divided into 2 buildings from the 18th-century, a former school, from Napoleon III period.

This hotel was a delight! We had a beautiful, quirky room in the attic. The check-in was easy, and the hotel staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. the location could not have been better - just a few minutes walk to the chateau, and to several restaurants. We'd definitely go back there again!

Lovely hotel in quiet location close to the centre of a beautiful town. Well placed for town amenities and exploring local chateaux.
Hotel had its own small car park at the front.
Room was spacious and comfortable. Lovely French windows and small balcony.
No evening meals but loads of lovely restaurants couple of minutes away and owner gave us good recommendations.
Breakfast was very good in a nice dining room.
Staff were lovely - friendly and professional.
Great value.
Will definitely return.

Our stay here was the highlight of our trip to the Loire valley. The chateau is set in a beautiful rural area about 5 minutes drive from Azay- le -rideau.The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was fabulous- very spacious, bright, airy, tasteful decor .Modern bathroom with walk in shower . Breakfast was amazing and served in a beautiful dining room - tables covered with white table cloths- loved the homemade yogurt and granola. This is a very special place- well worth visiting .It felt lovely to stay in a chateau especially as we had visited some beautiful chateaus in the area.We hope to return some day.

We were travelling, so unfortunately only one night in Azay but managed to see the amazing chateau. Smaller than some of the others in the Loire but really interesting. Loved the small streets and ate in a great local restaurant. Would definitely come back to this town and hotel. Can’t wait in fact .

A lovely little town that has as its central draw the fabulous chateau. Unlike many French towns which present a grey, shuttered facade to the visitor, this one looks almost like a film set of a quintessential French town - which is not to say that it's tacky, just right. Nice bars and some great restaurants with a couple of Michelin jobs.

Lovely little town!
Lovely little town! The chateau far exceeded our expectations, and we took longer to go round than we thought we would, as there was so much to see and admire. Some of the restaurants weren't open in the evening, but the ones we went to didn't disappoint, although the menu at one of them was quite limited, and didn't change from day to day.

A busy little town that is the centre of the tourist industry locally but not overwhelmed with tourists. A really good base for cycling and castles. Some very interesting villages nearby. Nice restaurants.
I enjoyed the hospitality of the hosts Jerome and Isabella. Very friendly people trying to make you welcome and happy. I particularly enjoyed the conversations I could have with Jerome. Very nice breakfast with local artisanal products. Perfect location in a beautiful village with famous castle. The place is pretty as well, with dug-out cellars made to extract natural stone for the castle. If I pass by Azay-Le-Rideau would definitely stay here again.
We loved everything about this amazing hotel
It's in the middle of 'apple.country' and a bit outside the town but its a local magnet for its food
Reserved a table and glad we did as the restaurant was full (even on a Wednesday)
The 5 course tasting menu was sensational...some of the best food I've ever tasted and the restaurant location and views have to be seen to be believed. Breakfast as many others mention was lovely and original.
Lovely and very helpful couple who own this Chateau. Switched the room we had booked when they realised how unwell my wife was, for one on a lower floor (with no charge for a bigger room as well...very kind).
The Chateau is beautifully decorated and stands in fields outside the nearest town. Peaceful and absolutely idyllic!
The restaurant they recommended in nearby Azay-le-Rideau was astonishingly good.
The little hotel is friendly and up to date. Very clean too. The hosts went out of there way to make us feel at home. We stayed four days and enjoyed the grounds and the locally sourced breakfasts. The owners, Jerome and Isabella, were able and willing to answer our questions about the area and make suggestions to us about the places we were going. I highly recommend a visit to L’Ombre d’Azay!
It was a disaster!
Nobody there when we arrived, very poky with a dreadful outlook on a dirty courtyard etc. We had to book in to another hotel! Extra expense of course. You should check the 3 stars rating . Really not deserved. A refund might go some way in restoring my faith in your choice of hotels!
Mireille Farrow , an unhappy customer!
A delightful location and a beautifully decorated house. Very comfortable and well proportioned for 4 people with excellent amenities. A short 10 minute walk to the centre of Azay-le-Rideau and very good restaurants. Great base for sightseeing. We will certainly return. Francois and Sophie are lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
We had a warm welcome on arriving at Hotel Biencourt and we were shown to a lovely room. The furnishings were very tasteful and we were fortunate to have an outside terrace - a real bonus.
Breakfast was a very good continental spread. Our hosts were very helpful regarding the local area and places to dine. Would recommend.
Good location, the room was a decent size and very clean, the bed was large and comfortable, and all the facilities worked well. The shower etc. was not as modern as many hotels but this doesn't bother us one slightest bit.
Check in was pleasant and the proprietor was very helpful.
Breakfast was good.
The room was lovely - in fact it comprised two rooms plus the bathroom facilities. Everything was spotlessly clean and all the systems - automatic lights, aircon, security gates, lift - worked perfectly. A very well run hotel. Secure car parking was opposite.
The people who runs this hotel are so nice and friendly and that’s the most important thing. In breakfast they served home made yogurt and flan flavoured yogurt which was amazing! The rooms are special. Service is amazing.
Great location, wonderful decor in the rooms and public spaces. The manager was so helpful at check-in, ready with recommendations (good ones!) and tips. We really enjoyed the hotel and would happily return.
The whole property was beautifully decorated and was obviously loved as a home as well as a small hotel. The owners were welcoming, friendly, hospitable, fun and made us feel very special.
Fantastic location close to Azay Le Rideau, lovely property and great welcome. Children really enjoyed the swimming pool and breakfast was something to look forward to every day!
The rooms carved into the rock were very cool and interesting. We arrived by bike and the hotel is very close to the chateau Azay-le-rideau that we wanted to visit;
