Really great stay, easy to organise and reception helpful. Someone took my car spot before I came back in the evening so that was annoying- but there was a car spot on the street nearby.
Woke up during the night because the room was cold- turned on heater and used an extra blanket and was all good.
Location was easy to get to everything nearby that I wanted to visit in the morning.

Lovely old gold boom architecture, beautiful tree-lined streets (great in autumn).
Amazing bookshop.
The Mill (recently recycled industrial complex) is very well done with interesting and high quality specialist outlets (cheese, wine, smallgoods, etc.) and a great Viennese cafe (couldn't believe it!).

A pleasant country town with a lot of history.
A pleasant country town with a lot of history. Nice tree lined streets and old historic buildings. The road traffic through the town centre is a bit chaotic and too fast making it a bit tricky to cross at times. Some Nice coffee shops in town and the visitor information centre is worth a visit.

Castlemaine is a picturesque town, some good attractions from what I saw in the almost two days I was there. Would go back to the Five Flags Hotel again where I had dinner. The old prison is amazing, never seen anything like it.

Castlemaine is an interesting city with lots of accommodation and dining options. It is designed around tourism and there are lots of interesting shops and attractions. The surrounding areas are interesting too. We could have spend more time there. The town centre is easily walked.

with our accommation at Goldenray, there was no sitting room, no lounges or padded chairs, no wardrobes that were open, there was no proper kitchen, we could only walk from bedroom to bedroom and up the hallway when inside, we were aware that the owner was sharing the other part of the house, not quite what we expected.

Accessible for travellers without a car.
Accessible for travellers without a car. Train station easy distance to town accomodation, galleries, cafes, botanic gardens, dining. For walkers, the Goldfields track passes north and south, and cyclists have access to bush trails.
The Cottage was tucked away behind the main house and we were greeted by a family of carolling magpies and the clucking of a couple of hens in nearby the chook pen. The Cottage was screened by native bushland which could be viewed from every window. The place was nicely appointed and had everything we required (no dishwasher, but we didn't need that). We did not get to meet our host, Shirley, but we were able to communicate by SMS, if required. Information on the local eateries was listed on an Excel spreadsheet - very handy!
The tent was spacious and well appointed; had pretty well everything you could ask for and expect from a luxury family-sized experience... better than most hotels that we've stayed at. The amazing thing was how clean the tent was - including all the cups/utensils and bedding. Just brilliant. The AC was quiet and worked well to warm the tent. The claw-foot bath on the decking was beautiful. The beds and bathroom was brilliant, and our 12/16yo actually had fun in the children's nook.
We were in Castlemaine for a wedding at nearby Ravenswood Homestead, which was a lovely spot for a wedding/reception. We arrived Saturday afternoon and checked out Sunday morning so did not spend a lot of time in Castlemaine, we did however visit Johnny Baker (downtown) for breakfast which is a lovely bakery that has a great park across the road where we had our coffee. Unfortunately on this trip, we didn't have any spare time to do much else in the town.
The location was excellent, the facilities modern and very comprehensive; there is a good view from the living room and balcony, and a couple of minutes by car from both the town centre and the Mill. Walking distance to the amazing art gallery in the old Castlemaine gaol. The host, Bev, lives on site and was there to assist whenever needed, but otherwise left us to our privacy.
We liked our little apartment. There were three of us, and we had three beds, all with lovely decor and comfortable. There was a little kitchen area for making tea/coffee, and a table and chairs. The location of the motel was convenient, staff were helpful and we enjoyed our stay in Castlemaine.
Location was beautiful, room was clean and stunning! Bathroom was big and accommodating! We had to leave early which was a shame because we could have easily stayed the extra nights but the support from Dee was incredible. Would recommend to anyone travelling to the Castlemaine area!
Lodge was close to station and town , easy walking to sites around Castlemaine. Our host was very friendly, made us very welcome. Knowledgeable of the area , sites to see, places to eat. Some rooms on 1st floor which some people may find difficult however we had no issue.
This property was perfect for a couple. It was centrally located, easy walk to the main street of Castlemaine. The bedroom, bathroom and living area was spacious and clean. With the fireplace in the living area it was a perfect couples retreat for a few days.
Mister Rice is close to everything we wanted to see in Castlemaine. We were middle aged daughter, elderly mother and male cousin, so the separate bedrooms and shared kitchen were ideal. We are all readers so enjoyed the eclectic selection on offer.
Very spacious and modern motel room, excellent sized bathroom, private outdoor area, yummy sourdough toast provided for breakfast, pet friendly, excellent hosts who are responsive and always ready to help. Loved everything about it.
The Albion hotel is very clean and the sheets and towels are white. The rooms are recently refurbished and it was quiet. The communication with owner is excellent. A basic room which is fine for a short stay.
Considering the disruptions of covid Fig accommodation and cafe are a wonderful haven. I'm so impressed they keep going so cheefully and the service is still excellent.
The owner was wonderful. We appreciate all the love and care. Our visit to Castlemaine was made better by your hospitality.
Thank you so much for a memorable visit.
Excellent place to stay when visiting Castlemaine. A quiet street, with a quaint garden outlook, 4 minutes by car away from town centre, fresh, clean an cosy.
