The City of Smiles, Århus (or Aarhus as it’s now officially known) has been around longer than any other Scandinavian city, so has had plenty of time to accumulate attractions and eateries. Its vibrant music scene and nightlife are popular with Denmark’s largest student population, and the University Park features the excellent Steno Museum and Natural History Museum.
Weird and wonderful artworks adorn the multi-coloured ARoS museum, and artefacts in the Viking Museum are on the site where they were discovered, alongside copies of exhibits from the Moesgård Museum, located in a forest south of the city centre (closed until 2014). At the heart of the neighbouring park is Marselisborg Palace, the Danish monarch’s summer residence.
The botanical gardens are opposite the Old Town, which is not actually the historic centre but rather a colourful collection of half-timbered buildings from all over Denmark, set around a pond.
Shops and pavement cafes line the Aarhus River which enters the sea by the large port which has contributed significantly to the city’s success. Overlooking it are the ultra-modern Isbjerget apartments, resembling peaks of icebergs. Also innovatively designed is the Modernist town hall, and Aarhus Cathedral has the country’s tallest spire and longest nave.
Booking.com’s accommodation options range from beachfront hotels to cheap hostels and apartments near Aarhus Airport.
My first time in Denmark and it was beautiful. A lot of new building projects. A lot of shops and restaurants. A lot of museums. Den Gamble By definitely worth visiting, because there are a lot of museums and you feel like a lot of years ago. Botanical garden is for free, a lot of beautiful plants.

Not as much to do in Aarhus proper, but if you had the means to travel outside there was more to see. Not as visitor friendly as other Danish cities we visited. One full day was enough for the city proper to meander around. Be careful of where you eat, because some of the smorrebord menus were simply fried fish (from their fish and chips menu) on a large piece of bread or soggy chicken salad. Not the Danish versions you might be looking for.

Confusing town plan. Lost my sense of direction frequently.
Confusing town plan. Lost my sense of direction frequently.
Great range reasonable eating places. Friendly service. Flexible menus.
The art gallery was a bit strange. Not much of a B collection for an experienced art lover in other European cities. The shop there was well stocked and presented

Best nature around this city. Very underrated.
Best nature around this city. Very underrated. Totally worth to come check for its city centre, the restaurants, the cafes, the new building with interesting designs, and of course, the forests and the parks
This hotel is very comfortable and close to AROS and other places to visit in central Aarhus. It is a short walk into the city centre. It had great beds and for once - good pillows - the best of our trip, and there is all you need such as small fridge, microwave, dishwasher etc. Good bathroom and shower. There is off street secure parking to keep the car safe if you book ahead. The staff were just lovely. It was a really pleasant experience to stay here, and I would definitely come again.
This hotel boasts an excellent and strategic placement in Aarhus, near the city center, parking, services and grocery shopping; enhancing its overall appeal. I enjoyed the breakfast, the cleanliness and notably, the amiable and accommodating demeanor of the staff members. The accommodations provided a satisfactory level of spaciousness, while the effective performance of the air conditioning unit contributed positively to the stay.
Modern and new! The rooms were spacious and gracious. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom was luxurious. Even the chairs in the room were comfortable — it seems like the hotel’s designers carefully chose everything for both beauty and comfort. My family also loved the pool table, ping-pong table, and darts in the fancy but friendly lounge.
The location is ideal, the breakfast is plenty good enough to start the day with, the hotel is extremely clean and tidy and the staff are incredibly helpful and you're always greeted with a smile... even if you've just spoken to them in really poor Danish. The rooms are comfortable and on every occasion I've enjoyed a really good night's sleep.
Location is excellent and breakfast is also good. Aarhus was very full this weekend due to the Jazz Festival. We booked this hotel last minute and I guess the only room available was one for disabled guests, everything was very big but it was just in front of the elevator door which is not so nice.
The location is on the outskirts of Aarhus by a lovely pier. One can walk or bicycle to town and one can also have ferry access within a 5 minute drive. There are lovely restaurants nearby, the self service coffee and/or tea area is quaint and very clean, and the room was very comfortable.
Quiet, clean, facility was well equipped with every kitchen utensil and item you’d ever need for cooking full meals. There was ab excellent breakfast included in room charge. The facility was very near the tram which runs frequently to and from Aarhus Central.
Very comfortable hotel right next to the train station and 15-minute walk from the Aarhus city center. The room was very nice and clean. The breafast was good and satisfying.
Most important: beds are awesome - very comfortable, we had great sleep there!
The location was perfect for me, close to the city center of Aarhus (walking distance of like 5 minutes) and Iman was very supportive. He provided space to put food in the fridge and also had the right products to put a washing machine.
The Hotel is beautifully situated and has a breathtaking view over Aarhus and the ocean. Close by are some Tourist attraction like Parks, Marsalis Castle, Ballehage Beach.
Breakfast is good.
The hotel was rather inexpensive for Aarhus and the beds were comfortable. The people at the reception were always really helpful when I needed some information.
