My stay at the Finca La Piedra was perfect for what I was looking for on my trip to Alora. Jane was the perfect host and a vital source of information for a non Spanish speaker. Furthermore the duck eggs as a 'welcome pack' tasted amazing.
The property is slightly remote - so if you're not prepared to walk or don't have your own vehicular transport, that could be a problem.

Location was excellent as it was very close (<5min) to a superb supermarket and a fantastic sandwich/cake/ breakfast cafe. Also close to all parts of the lovely town of Alora with many interesting Tapas bars and an Arab castle. Excellent rail connection to Malaga and from there to Granada and Seville. AMazing views of the countryside from beside the pool which was most welcome as temperatures reached over 35C.
Close to the Bodegas Pérez Hidalgo for excellent wine tasting and tour of the facility.
very traditional whitewashed villge come small town.
very traditional whitewashed villge come small town. A couple of interesting historic sites. Doesn't really cater for tourists in the evenings - takeaway or chinese is about it. Transport needs to be looked at carefully so you don't get stuck somewhere you can't easily get back from.

We booked for a week, but if staying longer, would have travelled further afield by train, to see more of the area. Plenty taxis nearby to get to and from the railway station. Alora is a hilly village, we took a taxi up to the Castle and walked back. Went to the bakers every morning for fresh bread, and the various fruit shops to get our fruit, and two quite big well stocked supermarkets, and a butcher shop

Alora is quite Hilly but manageable.
Alora is quite Hilly but manageable. We ate ar Bar Marin (great for Seafood) - check opening days, we also ate at Casa Abilio which was amazing.
The large Mercadona supermarket in town is big enough for all food shopping requirements - careful driving into and out of the underground car park.
Getting to the Caminito del rey if you have a hire car is a doddle - book tickets in advance from the official website. This website also has great advice https://anywhereweroam.com/caminito-del-rey/
Ronda is an hour in the car and worth a day trip - we ate at and would recommend Pura Cepa.
We also did the wine tasting in Alora with www.bodegasperezhidalgo.es - email them to make a booking.

It is a lovely town, with stunning views from all round, but especially from the castle. I stayed there in order to do the Caminito del Rey which was wonderful and Alora is a perfect place to stay to do that. The people in the town are friendly and it is very safe. There are lots of shops, banks, cafes bars and restaurants.

Little village, a small drive from el camito del rey.
Little village, a small drive from el camito del rey. Some nearby roads are unpaved but can be driven with a normal car which is not a 4x4. Peace and quite !
There is one restaurant that opens every day, the other had meals at lunch time, but in the evening was a bingo !
"This is not a 5***** hotel". Nick, the British owner and manager of the site, kept saying it as to justify any issue that might arise. Himself and Nicky are wonderful hosts and always trying to please the guests. Clamping is an experience and everything was just fine (even if not a 5**** hotel). Tent was big, confortable and quiet, surroundings ok and one can see that they are improving it and we had a great dinner on the terrace with a fantastic view to the valley. I wish Nick and Nicky all the best for this project.
The lift provided access that wouldn't have been possible using stairs. It is the main reason we chose this location. The view from the terrace was amazing. The hosts communicated clearly and often to make sure everything went smoothly. Having "start up" food and beverages saved us from having to immediately shop. The apartment itself was well furnished and clean. The hosts provided a binder of important information about the apartment that was very helpful. We enjoyed our 4 days in Alora, and at this apartment.
The place was full of inspirational art and features. I loved the pad and the garden, although didn't use the jacuzzi, sauna or sit pool as we were out and about so much. Alora is a beautiful place with friendly people. ARTEstacion is a perfect base. It's situated close to the station which is useful. Alvor is quite a climb but there are buses and taxis and the walk down is really easy. Hosts were very helpful. My friend and I enjoyed our stay and would love to return one day.
The home and the grounds were beautiful, the outdoor shower was fun and invigorating. Liz was an amazing hostess, great conversationalist and her breakfasts were amazing!
We were also impressed with the pueblo of Alora and the whole surrounding area. Centrally located within one hour drive of many activities and points of interest. We had a great time in Setenil de Bodegas, Ronda and Caminito del Rey hike.
We particularly liked the spacious balcony with its expansive view. Secure parking in the same building, good wifi and air conditioning.
Kitchen was well equipped and lots of extras like coffee pods, dressing gowns, board games etc
Host was easy to contact and helpful. We highly recommend Penthouse Alora.
Our hostesses made us feel right at home. The place is so beautiful and peaceful.
We wanted to eat dinner in the town of Alora and our hostess drove us to drop us off town to eat We walked back. It was so nice. If I could put higher than five stars, I would!
The location is perfect for Caminito del Rey walk.
The apartment is in the centre of the beautiful town of Alora.
Free parking is availble in a communal carpark a few hundred meters away.
The apartment itself was great. Well kitted out and everything worked.
The apartment and Alora in general are wonderful. The communication and instructions via WhatsApp were flawless and we really enjoyed our stay. The apartment had everything we needed and a bit more 😊 The balcony and the views are awesome 💎
Modern spacious very comfortable room comparable to many 4star hotels. Excellent air conditioning. Roof terrace with complementary coffee and biscuits and seating area. Secure storage for our bicycles. Helpful and friendly staff.
The B&B is located on the outskirts of Alora, in a very quiet rural area. Beautiful views of the town and castle! The swimming pool is a great place to chill after a day of activities and the hosts are super friendly and helpful!
I loved everything about this property.
Jenny was lovely!
The Casita was comfortable and beautiful.
Wished we could have stayed longer.
Would love to come back when they have renovated the small hotel.
Very spacious and comfortable house. The host were very friendly and flexible. The roof terrace is a real winner with beautiful views of Álora and its castle. Easy distance to El Caminito del Rey.
it was a beautiful rustic villa, great location as Alora town and Pizara were only a short drive away. lovely pool, very peaceful place where you can completely relax.
Charming hotel with high ceilings. Beautiful city. Friendly and helpful host. Excellent breakfast that included fresh crepes and orange juice. Exceptional value.
