Cambus O May is a sweet, tired grandpa of a place. It’s an older, gorgeous fishing lodge that went derelict and has been brought back to life. I love that it has the patina of age! It’s a comfort and beauty you can sink into.

The place was amazing and it looked like a little palace from the outside. The hosts were really nice and accommodating. Every morning they prepared a tasty breakfast based on our wishes. The room was clean and tidy, the bathroom was huge and luxurious - we loved it! The location was perfect - quiet, surrounded by nature, yet close to the little fairy town Ballater which you can reach within 5-10 min walking.

This is an outstanding place. Graceful furnishings, with everything one can need. Warm greeting and friendly hosts, and the best breakfast we've had in years.
This former church has been tastefully converted, enabling retention of the original features. Auld Kirk Hotel is situated in the heart of picturesque Royal Deeside.

Ballater is a lovely little town, very close to the Balmoral Estate so excellent location if you are planning to visit the Castle and grounds of the royal estate. It has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique / gift shops to choose from. Free parking in most places and some lovely walks that are all clearly marked that follow the river and circulate the town.

Ballater is a beautiful historic town.
Ballater is a beautiful historic town. It has lovely architecture, a Victorian train station where Queen Victoria used to travel to. Lots of restaurants, pubs, and the townspeople are very nice. It's close to Balmoral and was a perfect location to drive around and see the sites.

Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

Ballater is a fantastic area, such beautiful surroundings with lots to do. Lots of walking and cycling options.
The town itself has beautiful buildings and architecture.
I love the area so much, I'm looking to buy a property and move there permanently.
Beautiful (dog friendly) hotel run by a lovely couple. Very friendly and accommodating. Staff great. Very clean and comfortable.
They are hoping to employ a chef soon so breakfast was continental and plenty of choice but sadly no dinner available at night-however they were happy for us to take food in and gave us plates and cutlery!
Lovely walks in the surrounding area for our dog and in the grounds of the hotel too. Enjoyed sitting by an open fire with a couple of pints after dinner. Looking forward to pur next visit already!
The cottage was charming, beautifully clean and in a great location. Things were clearly marked. We used the bed settee, which was easy to put together and surprisingly comfortable. We enjoyed the Trivial Pursuit, published before the year 2000, so really out of date! 😂🤣
My daughter really enjoyed using the coffee machine too!
It goes without saying that the area is absolutely stunning. I was brought up in Banchory, so it is home to me. The drive from Ballater to Banchory and then across to Stonehaven is breathtaking!
My hosts, Tony and Natalie recently remodeled their property. Everything is new. My room was spacious and very comfortable. I don't eat breakfast, but Natalie prepared some of the best coffee I've had in Scotland! Tony was very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Both were lovely and totally focused on my having a wonderful experience at their property. It is ideally located just a short walk from the city center and all the restaurants and shops. Highly recommend this to travelers in this area.
Lovely B&B, parking onsite. Clean and comfortable room. Lovely host who gave us all the history of the area and the town of Ballater. Balmoral Castle is not far away, and she told us many stories of the Royal family that don’t make the papers or headlines. Drove into the very pretty town of Ballater for dinner and a walk around as it was still daylight until 9 pm at night, which was lovely. The B&B is up for sale, so not sure if the same hosts will still be there for much longer.
The location is ideal for visiting Ballater and Balmoral. Parking is easy. We were welcomed by a very helpful man who was able to recommend some eating places in Ballater which we have enjoyed the evening meal at Alexandra Hotel. Also he was able to provide us his ironing board to borrow. The breakfast was quite good and the best thing was that it was nice to watch the red squirrels at the bird feeding station!
Great view looking south over the Dee to the hills beyond. Rural, although within walking distance of Ballater. See attached photo - Tiny House is in the centre. Cosy and romantic for two. I think we saw an eagle from the window one evening, though too far away to be sure.
And we were lucky with the weather!
The bed and pillows were super comfortable!!! The entrance etc, was really lovely decorated. Our dinner was lovely. Would recommend having a meal in the hotel. Ballater is a lovely little town/village with some lovely shops. Great location to stay in if you are going to Balmoral Castle.
Amazing hotel and great experience overall. The hotel is beautifully decorated - very cosy and very Scottish! The bed was extremely comfy too.
The couple running it are very friendly, approachable and helpful. They have an adorable dog :)
The breakfast in the conservatory was great.
Great and well equipped cottage in beautiful Ballater. Fab location for exploring the surrounding area and the little town has all amenities you need. The hosts are very accommodating and communication was very good. We would definitely go back.
Looking for a place for a couple of nights for the Braemar Games. Good location outside of Ballater. Big rooms, handy kitchenette, great beds and an awesome shower kept us all happy. Great staff always offering to help
The hotel and surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous. The staff was very friendly, the beds were very comfortable, and the ensuite bathroom was beautiful (great water pressure/temperatures in the shower).
We had a lovely stay at the Gordon Guest house. Steve and Beth do a brilliant job of running a small hotel. Breakfast was fab and really comfy bed. We stay in Ballater a lot and will definitely stay again.
Fascinating stay in the small and cosy city of Ballater, near Balmoral Castle. Great hosts who took good care of us and served great breakfast and gave us good advice on the area.
Location was perfect for Ballater and plenty of parking. Very quiet location. Plenty of good quality pubs, restaurants and coffee shops near by. Also close to very good walks.
A lovely hotel in centre of Ballater. The staff were very nice and the food was first class. Good value for money and will definitely recommend to anyone.
Location for this space is great. Easy to walk into town for dinner and groceries. A lot of things to do around the area as well! Would stay here again.
