Location was an excellent base to explore the island and very close to the ferry terminal. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The bar and restaurant were busy so I really appreciated the telephone call from the lovely manager Suzanne to ask if we wanted to eat in the restaurant that night and to book us a table, which was just as well cos it ended up being fully booked. So we got the try the seafood platter that the hotel is renowned for and we were so pleased we did ! Huge, fresh and very very tasty ! The breakfast followed the trend, never had a bigger or filling packed omelette ! Fresh muffins and delicious coffee ! All in all could not fault it !

The Sands Hotel in Orkney is located in a small village, right across the street from the sea. You can enjoy a top quality meal in the restaurant, sit outside ( Orkney weather permitting) with a quiet drink from the bar, and loose yourself in the mesmerising sea. The rooms are all very tastefully decorated with everything you need. In the morning, enjoy a good breakfast to set you up for the day. Cannot recommend The Sands Hotel highly enough.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I was grateful for the slightly later check out time which meant that I could get to parkrun and then shower afterwards. I liked the style and decor of the rooms and around the hotel - clean and simple.

It's right at the bottom of Orkney mainland but, with a car, everywhere is accessible. It's walking distance from the Pentland ferry connecting Orkney to the Scottish mainland. There are decent facilities with a shop and a pub. It's just a really nice place that feels safe. The houses and the streets had Christmas trees and lights up to make it feel really festive. A good place to make a base.

Gorgeous little village in a sheltered part of beautiful Orkney. So much to do and see in Orkney, especially if you like history and wildlife, wish we had longer. Wonderful unique shops and places to eat in Kirkwall and Stromness
