We loved the quiet and seemingly remote location.

We loved the quiet and seemingly remote location. The main places we wished to go to (Beer, Seaton, Lyme Regis, Tramway, Donkey Sanctuary, etc) were only a short drive away. The property is full of character and gives an authentic country cottage experience. We had the option of a separate sitting room, (where tea, coffee and biscuits were provided), should we wish to use it. The TV, for the relatively short time we watched it, was in the bedroom. For us, this was the best place. Malcolm and Beryl gave good advice re the local attractions, pubs and restaurants. The Seaton Tramway is well worth the fare, and being able to hop on and off meant that visiting the villages en route was possible. The Donkey Sanctuary is well worth the visit (free entry) for the cafe alone. A very educational and thought provoking place.

Records Place in Southleigh is lovely with 9 acres, chickens, sheep, home grown produce and fabulous home cooking for breakfast. The hosts at Records Place are wonderful. Our bedroom was perfect. We did not like the place we ate dinner on the first night of the recent BH, which has no connections with Records Place and Southleigh. We will not being going back to the pub restaurant in Whimple. However, we will definitely return to Records Place. If you can, avoid coming to East Devon and trying to get to a beach on a hot Bank Holiday weekend. In one town, we had to try a half a dozen car parks before finding a place to park. To get to Records Place you must transcend a very steep hill after wading through a ford in your vehicle. My low to the ground sport car, in 2018, could only just make the journey through the ford in the torrential rain. There is another way that does not involve the ford. Ask the owners of Records Place for help. No problems in 2019, other than parking anywhere away from Records Place and suffering sun burn and mild heat stroke! Fish and Chips on the beach at Seaton was enjoyed by all on one of the evenings over this recent BH. The Donkey Sanctuary is free to park and to enter. Lunch is good and caters for GF and Vegan diets. Please spend some money with the Donkey Sanctuary so that the life of its residents stays a happy one.
