The place is full of flies during the days and then mosquitos at night. The streets are terrible, made from broken stones and sand/cement, except for the tarmac main through road, which, as a result, is constantly busy or at a standstill. Cars cannot drive above 10mph in the side streets, hence the main road congestion.
The Lake seems polluted and nobody swims in there.
It's a boring little town, best avoided.
The only saving grace is there are lots of trees, and the have a very healthy aversion to cutting them down, even if this means building outbuildings and patio structures incorporating them. See the pictures below.

We loved the church bells ringing and the song birds singing. We weren’t so fond of the dogs barking in the night.
We loved the restaurants and the friendly people
but didn’t like the cobblestones underfoot or the dog poop left on the sidewalks.
We liked walking around the lake but noticed there wasn’t a lot of activity on the lake.
A big draw to Ajijic is the cost of living which is lower than in the coastal areas of Mexico. There is also the Chapala Society that offers programs to get involved with if you are staying a month or longer in Ajijic.

Ajijic is a strange place.
Ajijic is a strange place. Almost nothing to do for recreation other than walk around the town and eat. There are many good restaurants, but it would be nice to have some recreation options. Maybe we were there too early in the season in early Feb. The weather was cool-ish: Hi's in the high 70's, Lo's in the low 50's. Very, very dry. Did I say very dry? Great for sleeping and walking around. Really the only "recreation" we had was the heated swimming pool at our hotel. This was crucial. Our hotel was on the edge of the main town, and a 10 minute walk to the waterfront. It was very picturesque, but frankly kind of boring. A week is too long to stay in this town. 3 nights would probably be sufficient.

Ajijic was everything I expected from all the things I had read about it. Beautiful area. Lots of Americans, Europeans, and Canadians so that even though my Spanish was extremely limited, there were people everywhere to communicate with. Also many of the locals speak some English.

People were so friendly and helpful;. The weather was wonderful.
There were so many really good restraunts. Everything was so nice that we returned another time and stayed at the same place. The owner, Elizabeth, is a truly classy lady, just like Casa del Sol. We have tried to book for a 3rd visit, but the B&B is so sold out...no surprise...Everyone wants to wake up to the wonderful breakfast served by the friendly staff.
The hotel was a short walk into the centre of Ajijic along the lakeside path. The room was a good size with plenty of storage space. The second bed was located on a mezzanine accessed by a spiral staircase. The hotel rooms surrounded an attractive garden with usable garden furniture, making for a very tranquil location.
The staff were very welcoming and, even better, a welcome drink was provided on arrival. Parking was readily available in the street outside.
The location is perfect to be in the middle of the hub-bub of the Village Plaza and very walkable to all attractive locations. The restaurant in the hotel is first class. Some of the best meals had there compare to excellent restaurants anywhere in the world. Family run and super friendly and helpful when in need of language assistance and finding taxis, and other assistance. Eric and crew are awesome Inn Keepers.
Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful breakfast included with the breakfast. Very quiet location, but a close walk to everything you might need. We loved being able to access Ajijic's network off hiking trails right from the back of the hotel. Spurge for the luxury rooms - #7 or #8 if you can - extra space and your own private deck with nice lake views.
Nice, large studio apartment style room with kitchen, living/dining area and private bath. Kitchen included a refrigerator, cooktop, toaster oven, microwave as well as dinnerware and cookware. The room had two balconies overlooking the pool and beautiful grounds. D’Shanti Restaurant is located on the hotel grounds. Excellent food, drinks, and service!
Warm welcome by the staff! Beautiful garden and very nicely decorated hotel. The room is spacious, kept in style with colourful details. With the bathroom, hot water, tv, wifi, chairs, table and a fridge we were all set and happy. We were provided with a card to open the gate and park our car so we could enter and leave as we pleased.
Location was near the lake but more than 5 blocks walk to town center. The rooms were stocked with bottles of water. The meals served in the hotel restaurant were delicious. The included breakfast was adequate, one cup of coffee, a bread with jam and fruit with yogurt. It's a tranquil setting within a quiet residential neighborhood.
The location is perfect. The suite was super comfy, and spacious with a little kitchen, a fireplace and a lovely private outdoor garden lounge area. Harold, my host was really helpful, making me feel welcome and counseling me on where to eat and how to make the most of my one week stay in Ajijic.
The hotel was clean, cosy and very homey. A really lovely stay, with a home cooked breakfast that was great. I have food allergies and I'm vegan and they were very helpful and accommodating. The pool and garden area is lovely and the rooms are well looked after and lovely.
I stayed with my husband and friends at Danza del Sol and the staff were so accomodating and friendly. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms were so much nicer and bigger than we expected. We love to go back soon as we enjoyed our stay so much.
Our room was bright, spacious and comfortable, with balcony and its windows that brought in lovely light. This is probably my favorite place I've stayed in Ajijic. Perfect location, lovely owner and staff. I will stay again!!!
Charming, sweetly decorated hotel very close to everything in the old part of Ajijic. Loved the gardens with high ivy covered walls where breakfast was served. Lovely hand painted touches in the rooms. Quiet and peaceful.
The architectural design has been maintained while also including modern amenities. And the location! Next door to the Chapala Society, close to the lake, plaza, stores, restaurants- wonderful.
The grounds of this property were amazing. It was more than a hotel. Our “room “ was more like a very large one bed apartment.
The pool is beautiful…and heated.
