Other than the negative aspects, this was the nicest room we stayed at on our trip. Staff was great.

Dubuque offers a unique blend of historical charm, natural beauty, and modern amenities. The city is easy to navigate. We loved Habits Coffee & Mini Donut Co. It is a perfect place for avid sports fans. We took in a college basketball game during the day and a Fighting Saints hockey game in the evening.

Beautiful hilly city. Excellent places to eat.
Beautiful hilly city. Excellent places to eat.
A very 1930's vibe. Wonderful brick buildings along the Mississippi. Very little modern development.
Due to the hilly terrain, Dubuque was the first city in the country to have cable TV. You will not see a TV antenna. The Stallone movie F.I.S.T., based in the 30's, was filmed in Dubuque because of that and the buildings.
Having said that, it is HILLY. Driving can be very intimidating. A few times the view reminded me of San Francisco.
Take it slow and fire up that navigation app.
You'll do fine.

Dirty rooms. Caulking that was really dirty in bathroom.
Dirty rooms. Caulking that was really dirty in bathroom. Toilet made loud noise when getting up. Husband said toilet was not level. Bugs in the room. Thick dust in the vents. My stay was really disgusting in the room. Would not recommend anyone staying in that dirty environment. After that experience we stay the rest of our trip in Best Westerns which we had a very good experience. Before Dubuque we stayed in only Wyndhams rewards rooms but we didn’t after the Days Inn experience.

Restaurant downtown for breakfast Sunshine family restaurant was very good. Homecooked food and family atmosphere. Not pricey. Had dinner at Tony Romas and was excellent. Short staffed but staff working was very good. Had a 30-minute wait to sit and was worth every minute

Dubuque has some good tourist attractions, such as the Missippi River Museum and Aquarium, the Eagle Point Park that overlooks the river, and a really beautiful botanical garden. There were some nice murals & probably some cool local stores downtown (didn't really explore downtown), but the city itself is not that pretty or notable & the outskirts are your typical Midwest city affair. I stayed 3 nights & that was the right amount of time.
The location of the hotel was good. The layout and comfort of the bed and room were good. The breakfast was OK. On the hot side they had scrambled eggs, potatoes, and ham slices. Waffle maker for you to make your own waffles. Pretty much equivalent or slightly less to hotels 1/2 its price. Good coffee maker in the room, and it has microwave and refrigerator. Wifi was easy to connect to and had decent speed. The bed and pillows were comfortable and we slept well.
I have stayed there for the last 5 years over Homecoming at the University of Dubuque. The place is great, the breakfast is superb, location is great and the owners are excellent, knowledgeable and attentive. I tell all at the Homecoming this place is the BEST! 👍
Breakfast room was very bright and airy. Good food and the space was very clean. The young man working did a great job keeping the area clean and well stocked. He was hustling the entire time we were eating and every time we walked in and out of that area
Great location to the University of Dubuque which was why we were there. We really enjoyed the restaurant, Old Chicago Pizza, that was located at the edge of the property. Nescafe coffee machine in the lobby for use by all guests.
We were traveling for the Iowa Games, so the location was fantastic!! The 2 working at the front desk when we checked in on 1/28/22 around 830-9 PM were amazing. So friendly and helpful!! I wish I would have gotten their name.
Location is very good. Close to city downtown. Just 5 minutes driving. Food chains are very close to hotel. Beds are very comfortable. I slept like a baby every night. Over all I like to stay at Hilton Garden Inn Dubuque.
Food was AMAZING. The small details they took into consideration are a great way to travel back in time. Michelle showed us some snacks they had available and the homemade cookies and coffee cake were out of this world!
Magnificent Victorian in the heart of historic Dubuque and close to the Fenelon Place “elevator” which we took to the top of the bluff. Fabulous views of downtown, he Mississippi River and beyond!
A very nice, out of the way, location. Quiet and in a good area. Excellent shower (unlike most places I’ve been, it had a proper power-shower) and other facilities such as a fridge and microwave.
Robert was an outstanding host and our stay at the Inn has been a highlight of our road trip so far. Location is excellent, breakfast excellent, parking easy and the bed super comfortable.
Caroline's blew my expectations out of the water! Definitely not your average hotel breakfast. Coffee and the quiche! Just amazing. I would come back even just when visiting town.
Over 300 dollar for just 1 night was pretty high I think for that area. Need a place to stay for the night and get off the road for the night. It's not a tourist attraction town.
We stay here if get decent rate and give away arm bands since our kids r now too cool to swim. Just amazing dubuque location - able to walk around river and downtown
