Moss landing was a quiet spot along hwy 1 in CA and a good place to hub from as we explored the central coast
We liked the agricultrure, estuaries and wildlife. It let us build our understanding of the current comunity and some of it's history. This was not the typical beach tourist town.
We also found it interesting that Moss landing seemed to always have its own micro-climate that was consistetly unique from the nearby surrounding places we visited.
ONE consistent challenge was the underdeveloped hwy infrastructure compared to the demands of the amount of drivers on the road. CA 1 (Moss Landing - Santa Cruz)
Aimless slowdowns on clogged freeways caused by nothing more than more cars and not enough lanes.
Answer = Surface streets - ":( Sorry ~ No. More of the same. No escape. How do the locals cope?!?

Forget the picture of a power plant shown.
Forget the picture of a power plant shown. Most of it is not even working. For nature lovers, there is the ocean in front, a small harbor, and the gem of Elkhorn Sough behind. There are several very good restaurants. The Thai one at the south 101 entrance was excellent.

Very clean, modern, beautiful room other than occasional noise above us. My family liked the ease of parking and jumping onto PCH to visit nearby sights like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Capitola and Santa Cruz. Famous Phil’s Fish Market is 3 minutes up the street and a must do! The coffee machine had awesome selections, including fresh double or triple espresso! Free fruit was nice too. Staff was warm and helpful! Love free, uncrowded parking! Great place!

Moss Landing is a great base for exploring the Monterey Bay region, on Elkhorn Slough and close to Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Pebble Beach, Point Lobos State Park and the Big Sur. Fresh artichokes and produce abound. Phil’s Fish Market still turns out good clam chowder or fish & chips. There are at several places to find interesting succulents within a few minutes.

Moss Landing is between Santa Cruz and Monterey/Carmel.
Moss Landing is between Santa Cruz and Monterey/Carmel. It is easy to whiz past, but you'd be missing something fascinating. We stayed 3 nights at The Captain's House. It is a small B&B recently opened by a delightful family. Rather new the the biz, they excel in hospitality and concern for the guests' wishes. Probably the best and most elegant Mexican restaurant I've eaten at is a short block walk. The Haute Enchilada is hard to describe...certainly haute cuisine as well as a delightful and tasteful arboretum of succulents. Just 20 minutes from Monterey, Moss Landing is less pricy and a genuine fishing town. A small thing, but the Moss Landing State Beach is free and as lovely a Monterey Bay Beach as any you'll find. And nearly deserted. Worth your visit.
It's a lovely historic building. The antique furnishings were beautiful. Despite is being quite old they do manage to make it very comfortable in there. It was snug and warm. The bathroom had nice refinished floors. The toilet was hilarious. I won't say any more about that. It's right on the water so it's beautiful and Moss Landing is a strange little one street town but not in a bad way! Go for a walk down to the harbor and check out the sea lions and otters!
Nice modern rooms that were very clean. The beds and pillows were super comfortable. Walking distance to a couple of good restaurants (Thai and Cafe). A quick trip to Phil's famous seafood restaurant. Good coffee at Power Plant coffee. Easy to see otters at several nearby locations. The front desk staff was helpful with recomendations. Coffee is available in the lobby and room. A little noisy from the road but white noise from fan makes it easy to tolerate.
very quiet location, but also very welcoming. great local foods and hikes, but you need to plan to drive if you're expecting to head out of Moss Landing, but here again, the hotel is at a great spot to jump onto the PCH and head any direction you need!
the self-serve espresso machine in the lobby with free coffee totally ... manufique!
Very close to the harbour and its resident sea otters, right in the middle of Moss Landing without being noisy. A pleasant room, although the artificial fireplace was broken - I was cold, but there was a fan heater that I could have used. Reception were always available on the phone when I used it.
the rooms and the property are charming. easy check in. beautiful view of river. many interesting animals to watch on river. soft sound of ocean reminds you it’s not far away. excellent beach and walking trails. in moss landing close to restaurants, elkhorn slough, boating and kayaking.
Captain’s Inn is our favorite place to stay when we visit Moss Landing. It’s super convenient for us as we enjoy the wildlife photography opportunities in the area. The room is charming and quiet with a lovely view of the Salinas River!
The hotel was a great little find in Moss Landing. We were there for a Kayak tour and it was perfect location for that been only a few minutes down the road. Rooms were clean and bright, free wifi and a great check in service.
Spacious clean and comfortable with complimentary coffee. Good parking and whale watching at Moss Landing- interesting working harbour. Excellent seafood at Sea Harvest just up the road.
Super hotel, we surely will stay here again. Bed was very comfortable and huge, we slept very-very good. The room was very clean!! This hotel is best decision to stay!!
A nice modern hotel near restaurant and cafe. Good room which had everything we needed. Our room overlooked the cemetery - but the neighbours were very quiet!
