Takaragawa Onsen Ousenkaku, hotel in Tone

Boasting hot spring baths in a spectacular outdoor setting by Takaragawa River, Japanese-style hotel Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku is a 10-minute drive from Hodaigi Ski Resort.

The location of this property is fantastic, set near the Japan alps. It’s a magical , serene place and the hot springs are maintained impeccably! There are 4 outdoor hot springs, two with naturally lower temps. To bathe in nature on the river is incredible.. and the water has naturally healthful properties! No chemicals.. the hot water gushes out of the mountain and back into the river! The rustic, authentic Japanese inn adds to its surreal quality. Each room has private bathrooms ( 1/2 bath) and AC.

It's a place to visit for the scenery, not the happening nightlife. Tamao Kitchen is great for dinner. Large portions, well priced. Lammin bakery is a bit out of the way but the baked goods are really good. We drove up to lake Chuzenji, it's beautiful but a tourist money trap. It's worth taking the ski lift up the mountain out of snow season, there are some lovely walks and views. The foot spa was closed when we visited. There is an onsen at the bottom but it closes at 5pm.
