Hotel in El Remate
Set in El Remate, 35 km from Tikal National Park, Posada del Cerro offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. The place is away from the village in a lush greenery and we loved it! Service was super friendly and fast. They even helped us with the transfer to Tikal and back. Our double room was simple but big, with a big terrace with chairs and a hammock to relax and enjoy the greenery / to read etc. Bed was comfortable and had a decent mosquito net. They have a decent menu so we seldom ate breakfast there or had some drinks. The hotel is a walking distance from El Remate so we also walked to visit some restaurants or tienda for some snacks when we wanted to. My favourite thing for sure was the fact it's a little away and in the greenery, little hidden gem. Because it's close to the bioreserve, it was wonderful to hear the sounds of nature and especially have our first experience with howler monkeys howling 🙂 I would recommend it for sure.

Hotel in Flores
This elegant hotel is located within a tropical estate, on the edge of the Petenchel and Monifata Lagoons. This hotel was fantastic. The staff were welcoming and informative when we first checked in. The rooms are very spacious and have a good view over the lake. We managed to spot some monkeys when we first walked to our room and one morning we spotted a crocodile in the lake next to the restaurant. There is a fan in the room as well as air-conditioning but we found the fan to be sufficient. The grounds of the property are huge and the hotel feels very exclusive and relaxing as it is not in central Flores. They offer a car service to and from Flores as well as the airport which is much more affordable than a local taxi. The breakfast buffet was great with a good variety of items to choose from. There is a mix of typical local dishes as well as western style items. Dinner options were also great.

I am unsure if it was because we had just spent two nights in the painful, sweltering heat of the jungle (45 degrees Celsius) with no air conditioning and anything with an air conditioner would have made us happy, but we loved this place the instant we arrived! We were welcomed by a delicious jamaica juice welcome drink and a very friendly lady at reception. We were surprised to learn that there was a complementary 1-hour boat ride on the lake every day at 16:45 and that the temazcal (sauna) was also included in the price of the accommodation. The property grounds included a wonderfully kept garden and open grass area by the lakeside as well as a forested area where we say monkeys, squirrels, hummingbirds, iguanas, etc. The gardener Martin was very friendly and saw that we were interested in seeing wildlife, so he pointed out the monkeys (called "bonitos") and told us the local names of the birds and even treated us to some fish seeding. It seems that the stale bread from the restaurant is used to feed the fish at the lake every morning. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of hungry fish gobbling up the bread that we threw into the lake, The room itself was heaven - a beautiful view from the balcony, air conditioning, and a lot of space. We were told at reception that internet was not available in the rooms, but we were surprised to find a network with a very strong, stable, and fast internet connection. This worked out perfectly for me as I was able to work comfortably inside the air conditioned room. There was a table provided in the room, which I turned into my desk. All but one person working at the hotel (a male at reception) were very friendly, from reception staff to restaurant staff, to the gardener. The food at the restaurant is pricey, but good. Note that there really isn't a choice nearby, so you are stuck with the hotel restaurant unless you have your own transport or would like to shell out money for tuk tuks.
The friendly staff. very quiet and peaceful. The pool area. The location worked for me being in a quiet neighbourhood just outside the island.
The shuttle from El Remate dropped us a short distance away. Quinta Maya is not on the island but it was such an easy walk over to it. I had previously, on booking.com, asked for a pool/courtyard view but when we checked in they said we were not allocated one on requesting face to face the receptionist called someone and transferred us to a pool view room. It's worth asking as some rooms have no external facing windows and face inwards. A large enough room and bathroom spotlessly clean and modern. Really good quality towels. Comfy bed good aircon. Pleasant attentive staff spoke good English. They very competitively booked us a shuttle onwards to Cobán that picked us up from the door and that we were able to pay for on a visa card at the hotel. Whilst there we had a good inexpensive breakfast in the hotel courtyard. We thought Quinta a really great safe place to stay whilst visiting Flores and would fully recommend. If you walk down to the Flores causeway on the right there is a bit of a shopping mall. Inside a good well stocked supermarket that had opposite it a great bakery for things to pick up to eat on the long drive to Coban. At the causeway if you turned left there at the traffic lights (along about 100m) is a really good Chinese restaurant on the right (see lonely planet) . Before the causeway traffic lights back on the right side in the evening there is a lady making lovely fresh puusas (3 for q20). A great place to visit off the other side of the Flores island is the restaurant Raices. If you walk around anticlockwise as you get onto Flores island you come to the free ferry that goes over to the restaurant. We only had a coffee there mid afternoon and they were OK with that. See pics Great view of the island.
very clean and nice rooms top personal!
Great location and price! The Jacuzzi is such an added bonus. Highly recommend staying here!
Beautiful hotel and pool. There were comfortable lounge chairs around the pool. Everything was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was excellent.
Super friendly staff, comfy room and great location. The big common balcony is a great place to hang out at the end of the day
nice place, great space, good view to the lake, good wifi, good beds, good hot water.
I loved the lake view and the Hammock on the balcony. The AC worked great thankfully since it was very very hot! The free breakfast was good and the staff are all very friendly! The shower was okay, not hot, not cold.
Expensive room for a backpacker, but we had a very nice stay and enjoyed the luxury. Amazing view on the rooftop terras and nice food in the restaurant. We booked an extra day and got a free breakfast because we booked directly with them, so it's worth a shot to try that.
Great hotel to stay at in Flores. Clean rooms with AC and the pool was wonderful.
it was a short but very pleasant stay: after a long bus trip we were glad to be able to access our room earlier. Ve had a direct view to the lake, incl. a little terrace and right in front of our door there was a nice big all-guests-terrace. As we left at 5 am. next day, we got a breakfast box to take along, vegetarian wasn't any problem...
The hotel was in a very good location by the town zocalo and within a block from the water. From the rooftop bar or from the pool you get great views. We were there for three nights and had a comfortable set of beds, plenty of space, and attractive decor. The hotel left bottled water in your room daily and offered water in the lobby at all times. Every staff member was friendly despite our non-fluency in Spanish. The town itself is small but fun to walk around The water taxi is a great treat for getting around the lake. If we return to Flores or we know of someone going to Flores the this hotel is our recommendation!
Comfortable place in a good location. Quiet, clean, safe.
Really fantastic place. Excellent value for money, very clean, air con and hot water worked well. The staff were really exceptional - super friendly and SO knowledgable and helpful about visiting Tikal etc. They even had coffee ready at 5:30am so I could have some before Tikal! The location near the main road is very handy for Tikal or other trips - much better than the other hotels I saw listed. This place doesn’t have its own swimming pier but you can swim at lots of different places, I just went to one of the more expensive hotels along the lake and bought a smoothie and used their jetty to swim.
I had a great 2 night stay here. The hotel is right by the water and has a bar and resto on the top floor. My room was nice and clean. The front desk staff was really helpful, despite me not knowing a lick of Spanish! Thank you for helping me get transport to the airport at 5 in the morning!
Nice room with AC and ensuite bathroom. Lovely host. Good breakfast! Great view of the water.
The location is near the main street
