Volterra is a nice hilltop town with a few churches and museums. The shopkeepers are friendly and they have some lovely artisan products. There is a large outdoor market on Fridays when the whole place has a wonderful atmosphere. The alabaster sculpture are stunning and unusual. The villa was a wonderful place to stay! The building was built in the 15th century but has all the modern amenities. Our host/owner Luca was so accommodating in every way. His staff prepared a delicious breakfast each morning with many varieties of local cuisine. He had even prepared a map and detailed itinerary for several day trips if we wanted to explore the surrounding towns and other sights. Volterra is a beautiful historic town and walking around the narrow streets feels like stepping back several centuries in time. Walking around the traffic free central area was a pleasure. We visited several historic buildings including the beautiful cathedral. Also some excellent museums with great collections and works of art. There are many lovely restaurants and cafes too which make Volterra well worth a visit.ConorIreland - 10Scored 10

There are beautiful views of the country side and you can also see Volterra. Our hosts Paola and Alessandro were incredibly warm and made our stay there very special. They can provide breakfast and dinner. Paola is an excellent cook and made a memorable dinner for us. This is a beautiful property with wonderful hosts. We hope to return to Casa Al Povero.

The most fabulous breakfast 😊 On our touring trip we stayed in 6 different hotels, the breakfast and ambiance of this hotel was by far the best.. I would highly recommend you book a stay with Luca .. The owner (Luca) drove us up to the town, making two trips (as 7 in our group) and came back after dinner for us.. He refused payment..amazing service 😀

As it was (vertically) a significant distance from Volterra centro, I (and most other cyclists/guests) appreciated that they offered a full dinner and breakfast at the 'hotel'. He spent some time with us explaining the history of Volterra and recommended us museums and restaurants. The property is located inside the city walls and has stunning views. It is very spacious and the bathroom seems to have been just remodeled.
