Kite-shaped Trapani makes an impressive sight from lofty Mount Erice, connected to the peninsula below by cable car. On a clear day, the mountain also offers views of Tunisia - one destination of ferries from Trapani Port, alongside Cagliari, Pantelleria and the offshore Egadi Islands.
Overlooking the port is the old town, where arched doorways on narrow streets open onto many cheap apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com. Shabby chic façades sit alongside historic churches, such as understated Trapani Cathedral, somewhat lost amid elegant Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where pavement cafes sit in front of pastel-coloured buildings and metal balconies.
At the tip of the peninsula is the fortress-like Tower of Ligny lighthouse, now housing the Prehistory and Sea Museum. The Colombaia Castle protects the port from an island to the south, while in the other direction the sweeping coastline passes some beachfront hotels with swimming pools.
Villa Margherita Park offers shade from the Mediterranean sun, and Triton’s Fountain graces a neighbouring square. The simple façade of the Basilica of Maria Santissima Annunziata hides the treasures within, including a statue of the Madonna of Trapani which is at the heart of the Easter ‘Misteri’ celebrations.
Between the city and Trapani-Birgi Airport, historic windmills sit beside salt pans. The Salt Museum provides details of this major industry.

Good but small city, you can entirely visit the old town in less than a day, the city does give you access to beautiful places like Favignana and Erice but to get there is a bit complicated. Very complex public transport system to get to those places (Erice, Castellamare, Palermo, Marsala) with a lot of different companies offering different routes, not very modern as its tough to get precise schedules through the internet or apps.
The bus system of the city itself is pretty good though once you understand that you can use moovit and dropticket.
A lot of terrific food options in the city but nothing is very cheap, continental prices are the norm.
All in all a good city to visit for a day, a great city to stay in if you have a car and plan on visiting the surrounding area.

Trapani is a great "normal" town- not too touristy. There are great restaurants, good shopping, and you can reach a lot of wonderful places such as Erice, San Vito lo Capo, the Egadi Islands, Marsala and loads more. There are beaches, churches, ports...a bit of everything but at a relaxed level.

Perfect town for a short break or for a beach holiday, the town is in between a harbor and the beach. The city centre is vibrant, lots of restaurants and bars. The surrounding areas worth a visit if you are interested in arts, nature or simply laze on the beach.
People are friendly, the food spectacular!

Trapani is a hidden gem, offering a perfect blend of history, stunning scenery, and authentic Italian charm. From its historic sites to beautiful beaches, Trapani is a delightful destination for those seeking a memorable and enriching city break experience
Lory was very welcoming and extremely helpful, as were the other staff. We loved that there was an elevator for the luggage. The rooms were well appointed, beds and pillows very comfortable. Air con worked well. Breakfast was the best we’d had in Sicily. Well located to the harbour for the ferries (5min walk) and the beautiful and vibrant shopping and restaurant areas. Parking was nearby the B&B. The building has been renovated really well. Our stay exceeded our expectations.
The welcome began before we arrived with suggestions of places to visit. On arrival, the welcome just got better! Agostino, Alessandro and the staff were very hospitable and willing to help with any questions we had about our visit to Trapani and Sicily in general. The grounds and house are an oasis of peace with a very interesting history. Lots of fruit piled up on a plate in our room when we arrived. Breakfast was lovely!
This place is beautiful, spacious and fully equipped with anything you might need. Amazing location, good bed, nice and hot shower, pretty modern in general. The nicest place we stayed in all of Sicily. Host is quick to react and did I mention the place is beautiful ?
As said; I stayed in some other places in Sicily and this was by far the cutest and best equipped one! Highly recommend it.
The view of the water from the dining/living room was even better than the pictures. Open the doors to the balcony and hear the waves. Like a beach resort even though you are in a city. Bed was comfortable and kitchen reasonably well equipped. Nice table to eat and play games. Great location a stones throw from the main sights in old town of Trapani. Several restaurants within 2 blocks.
We got upgraded to an amazing room. The shower was one of the best we’ve experienced whilst travelling. There was a lot of mirrors which emphasised the size of the room. The breakfast was really good for Italy standards (few options but good options). The spa was relaxing (but requires an additional payment). And the location was perfect! overall one of the best hotels we’ve stayed in.
The location of the hotel is just perfect!
Also the rooms are huge and very comfortable, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit Sicily in its full form!
Also the staff is super friendly and helpful, we felt very much welcome and had a wonderful stay.
This place truly deserves more recognition, thank you very much for everything.
We will surely come back!
Spent our last day/night in Trapani of our Sicily vacation in the perfect property. Hotel has lovely decor throughout from the lobby to the rooms with really nice attention to detail. Open courtyard area was great to enjoy a lovely breakfast. Would highly recommend a stay at Hotel San Michele if visiting Trapani. Parking is easy only 1min walk from property.
Location was perfect. At the city centre. Near from everywhere in Trapani. The alley of the place turn out to be shortcut to every location in the city. Beach, restaurant, city centre, bus station, bus stop. In the corner you can find supermarket, coffeeshop and the best pasticceria in Trapani ; pasticceria La Rinascente.
The greatest accomodation through our trip in Sicily. :)
we got our keys from owners - they told us everything we needed to know. Flat was looking really nice and new, we even used washing machine - which was huge plus! :)
The location is really great, lot of parking spots near by and close to the old centre.
In short, this is the best B&B I've stayed in Italy. Facilities are excellent and super clean. Location is perfect for downtown trip. In addition, staff is very kind and helpful for every concern about stay and trip. Though there is not private parking space, street parking near hotel is very easy and cheap.
Nice location near the port, two nice restaurants across the street. Hotel had an elevator for our bags. Breakfast was very good, and parking across the street on the street was cheap and easy. We used the app EasyPark throughout Sicily. Recommend it. Take a trip to Scopello for a breathtaking beach.
Wow, what a beautiful home base for visiting Trapani, the Egadi Islands, Erice, and San Vito Lo Capo. Agostino and staff were attentive, helpful, and friendly. The best parts of staying in a family home and a boutique hotel. I only wished we'd spent more time here and enjoyed the pool and cocktails.
Beautiful building, spacious room, and perfect location. Travel cot available for our 9-month-old baby. Easy parking next to the hotel either free in some streets or charged in others. Very easy to pay your parking slot using the "Easypark" application (usable through almost the whole Sicily).
Very comfortable, beautifully decorated and clean apartment. Perfect location, close to Trapani's biggest attractions, the port and the airport bus stop. Great contact with the host. We stayed there twice during our stay in Sicily and we would love to come back
The location is fantastic, pretty close to the port, the station, the beach and the main sights of Trapani. The room was big and clean and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The property host was very welcoming and helpful. A highly recommendable stay!
excellent location but no water view. Very modern, well appointed, spacious with high ceilings, excellent breakfast with exceptionally friendly service. the desk staff were also very helpful. Best English speaking staff in Sicily.
Wonderful place to stay in trapani. Central location in the centre, close to all. Apartment is very clean, spacious, and great for family. Our host Enza was very helpful and kind. Hope to visit here again, many, many thanks.
The Hotel is situated in an historic building, with beautiful rooms and in the centre of the city. We had a welcome drink, it was really nice. Parking was possible in front of the building.
Alessandro is great. Friendly, gives you all the information about getting around Trapani. The location is nice. Walking distance to the city centre, Erice cable car.
