One of the best stay in our Japan trip. We loved the onsen, we love the facilities in the hotel. We love the location.

Located in Kumano, within a 2-minute walk of Odomari Beach and 3 miles of Ubuta Shrine, Oninosanpomichi has accommodations with a garden and free WiFi as well as free private parking for guests who... I'm not easily excited, but this is probably the first time I give a 10 out of 10 (and would give it 11 if I could). The staff is really exceptional (even for Japanese standards), very polite, very kind and very considerate. The building was built in the 70s (it's been a family business ever since) so it got the flair from that time (even the faucets on the washbasin in the bathroom seem to be from that era). Everything is well kept and working without problems. And of course verything is clean. It's located just next to the two tunnels leading towards the city, so it's conveniently accessed by car (be sure to slow down when exiting the tunnel or you'll miss it). By foot it's 20 minutes and only one of the tunnels can be used - I'd recommend a taxi. For foreigners: The staffs English is a bit limited, but it's sufficient for basic communication. If you want an authentic stay with the kind of atmosphere you might have seen in an older movie: This is your place to go.

The staff was not fluent in English but they were very helpful and used a translating app to speak to us. The room was clean, breakfast was great, the sauna and hot springs (2 large bath tubs) were amazing as well. 5 Stars.

Somewhat older property but in a stunning location and well-maintained. One negative, - access to the onsen lacks elevators and requires climbing stairs. The onsen itself is again a little dated but the location and views of the beach more than makes up for this. Our room service was superb - everything one can wish for in a onsen-ryokan experience. There is a free shuttle service to the Shimoda train station.

The room was very clean, the beds are super comfy and they have prepared 3 different kinds of pillows ( 1 hard pillow, 1 feather soft pillow and 1 throw pillow) for each bed which made my sleep very comfortable and relaxing since I am used to sleep using 2 pillows. The view from our room was excellent.
